Doug Ledbetter

In 1983, I ran into Tom, who had not been able to make our first (10 year) reunion. He was so anxious to hear about everyone and greatly looked forward to the next one. We planned to get together and share our interests... he was going to join my gym, the Clay County YMCA, and I was going to attend the Jacksonville Tall Men's Club with him. Tragically, those plans ended with Tom's death in a single car accident on I-295, coming home from a late college class. I miss Tom and Patty McFetrich and many others. I hope in our pleasure as we share our successes we remember the void left by so many.

The following comments are from Stuart Johnston, NBF c/o 1970, Tom's brother:

I deeply appreciate Doug Ledbetter's remarks concerning my late brother, Tom Johnston. Tom died one week prior to what would have been his wedding with Michelle Gaunt, a beautiful girl from Ponte Vedra. Tom was a wonderful, protective brother who had so much love to bestow and was quick to forgive those who crossed him. His work highlights include a stint with NASA in Houston and he served as a Captain in the Army Signal Corps in Alaska and Augusta, Georgia. Tom was an athlete, a poet, a musician-songwriter (guitar and flute), a naturalist, and a student extraordinare at both Flagler College and the University of Florida. He is sorely missed.
